7- 8:30PM: Lessons & Self-Directed Open Practice
8:30-10PM: Social Balboa Dance
7-7:45: Topics Lesson
Join us for more advanced content that will be focused on a deep dive in a single topic. This class is open to drop-ins, and is geared towards intermediate-plus balboa dancers. Dancers should be comfortable with basic balboa shapes, techniques, and moves (out & ins, lollies, toss-outs, and multi-turns) at 180 bpm.
*Those participating in our topics lesson are welcome to join into our foundation series for no extra cost!
7:45-8:30: Progressive Foundations Lesson Series--No balboa experience or partner required!
In our 4-class progressive foundation series, you will learn foundational balboa material in depth. Each series is four classes (occurring at our every-other-week practice). Due to the progressive nature of the series, this is not open to drop-ins for those who have not done balboa before.
Suitable for all levels + catered to those who are new to balboa, those who have taken balboa classes or attended practice but want a stronger foundation, those who want to go deeper into foundational movements and mechanics, those who want to learn and practice the opposite role, those who are interested in pedagogy, etc!
7-8:30 : Open Practice
Our open practice is geared towards those more self-directed learners who want a space and a good dance floor to practice their moves and techniques. This occurs simultaneously to our lessons, and our space will be split into lesson zone and practice zone. This is an entirely peer driven space to work on whatever you want!
Suitable for all levels, however *there are no teachers or instruction*
8:30-10 : DJ’d Social Dance - All dance styles welcomed! Balboa strongly encouraged :)
PRICING:
$20 for lesson(s) and dance (yes, intermediate + dancers can attend both lessons for the same price!)
$10 for open practice and dance only (no lessons)
Discount for series participants paying up front - $70 for four weeks of lessons and dances
*Sliding scale is always available, we would rather dance with you than have you miss out
*Entry in exchange for volunteer work (door shift) is always available
The Venetian Club is accessible by car and public transit. There is a parking lot in the back, and plenty of street parking out front. For public transit, your best option is plugging it into Google Maps and selecting the public transit option. Getting There
Additional Lesson Series Considerations
It can be hard to retain lesson material learned every-other week, and our series are designed to build from one lesson to the next. Because of this, we will identify an instructor or mentor at each foundations lesson who will be available on the off-weeks at Jazz Attack (another awesome Philadelphia dance that occurs every week) to informally review and dance through lesson content with each attendee. This will be announced every lesson. Please go dance with them!
